The 1906 Intercalated Games

The Intercalated Games of 1906 are not recognised as an Olympiad, and the IOC doesn't recognise the medals that were awarded. But they did see a number of innovations that we now take for granted as part of the Olympic Games, including the parade of athletes in their national teams at the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony, and the construction of an Olympic Village.
